Jimbo Jones Accepting Bitcoin
I recently caught some newer episodes of The Simpsons (circa mid-2010s) on FXX. From what I’ve seen I haven’t missed much, but I did get a smile from the introductory sequence of the first episode of season 26.
Did you know that Springfield town bully Jimbo Jones accepts bitcoin?
With the cryptocurrency rallying back towards its all time high, I was curious what Jimbo’s holdings would be worth now, more than six years later.
The price of bitcoin closed at $377.18 when this episode first aired on September 28, 2014. It’s now trading around $19,000, an astronomical gain of 4937% since then. According to the Food Research & Action Center’s January 2015 report (link to PDF) the average price of an elementary school lunch was $2.18 for the 2013/2014 school year.
Now doing the math. For every $2.18 in pilfered lunch money, Jimbo would now have…$107.63 in bitcoin (assuming he never sold.)
Bitcoin Price | $12,250 | $15,000 | $17,500 | $20,000 |
Gain (from 9/28/14) | 3,214% | 3,877% | 4,540% | 5,203% |
PPL (per pilfered lunch) | $70.07 | $84.52 | $98.97 | $113.41 |
Maybe he’ll buy something nice for Shauna.
